Advancing the Future of CIPS Certification: Next-Generation Portal Update

CIPS is pleased to share continued progress on the development of a Next-Generation Certification Portal, being designed in collaboration with students from the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Business Information Systems (BIS) program.

This initiative explores how CIPS can modernize and streamline its certification processes through a more efficient, user-focused digital experience.

Role-Based Experience for Applicants, Reviewers, and Office

A key milestone in the latest prototype is the implementation of role-based access, enabling tailored experiences for each user group:

  • Applicants can initiate and manage their certification applications
  • Reviewers can assess submissions and provide structured input
  • Office (administrators) can oversee and manage applications and track progress

Each role is presented with a customized interface, helping ensure clarity, efficiency, and a more intuitive experience across the certification lifecycle.

Improved Application Workflow

The prototype introduces a more structured and guided approach to certification applications. Applicants can now:

  • Enter and manage their education history
  • Document their professional experience and relate it to the SFIA framework
  • Build and refine their application within a centralized system

This represents a significant shift from traditional document-based submissions toward a more scalable and consistent digital process.

Centralized Management and Visibility

An enhanced administrative dashboard provides the CIPS office with a consolidated view of all applications, including:

  • Real-time status tracking (e.g., under review, approved)
  • Access to applicant details
  • Improved oversight of the certification program

These capabilities are designed to reduce manual effort while increasing transparency and consistency.

Built on a Modern, Scalable Foundation

The prototype is being developed using a modern web architecture, including a React-based front end, supporting a responsive and scalable user experience. This approach enables dynamic workflows, role-based functionality, and a foundation that can support future enhancements and integrations.

Looking Ahead

While still in the prototype phase, this project demonstrates the potential for a more efficient, user-friendly certification experience for both applicants and reviewers.

CIPS would like to recognize the Saskatchewan Polytechnic BIS student team for their continued innovation and contributions to this important initiative.
