Did You Know? CIPS is connected to the global IT profession.

CIPS has a long history of working internationally to advance professional standards, IT education, certification, and recognition for IT professionals.

International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) – https://www.ifip.org/

IFIP is a global federation that connects national IT and computing societies around the world to share knowledge, develop professional standards, and advance the responsible use of technology.

CIPS is a founding member of IFIP and continues to serve as Canada’s member society within the federation.

International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3) – https://www.ipthree.org/

IP3 is an initiative of IFIP focused on strengthening IT as a global profession. It establishes international benchmarks for professional competence, ethics, continuing professional development, and professional certification.

CIPS is a founding member of IP3, and CIPS’ ITCP designation is accredited against the IP3P standard and aligned to SFIA Level 5.

Seoul Accord – https://www.seoulaccord.org/

The Seoul Accord focuses on the international recognition of accredited IT education.

CIPS was one of six founding signatories when the Seoul Accord was established in 2008 and remains Canada’s full signatory.

Together, these relationships connect different parts of the IT profession:

  • IFIP connects professional societies globally.
  • IP3 establishes international standards for IT professionalism.
  • SFIA provides a common framework for describing professional skills.
  • The Seoul Accord supports international recognition of accredited IT education.

Together, they help connect Canada’s IT professionals and IT education to internationally recognized standards.
