The Opportunity

Resumes are being accepted for the position of Data Architect within the Information Technology department. Reporting to the GIS and Data Program Manager, this role is primarily

responsible for developing the City’s data foundation to implement the Enterprise Data and Analytics program following industry standard practices and tools. The Data Architect will be the key interface in operationalizing analytics on behalf of the business unit(s) and organizational outcomes for data and analytics consumers. In this position the Data Architect should expect to spend sixty percent of their time in building, managing and optimizing data pipelines and then moving these data pipelines effectively into production. The other forty percent of the time will be spent in collaborating with data stakeholders for ensuring appropriate Data Architecture patterns are used to deliver Data as a Service. Your role

  • Work closely with clients and other resources to effectively communicate, design, plan, and implement capabilities that provide value to both internal and external customers
  • Design and build data architectures to leverage data as an organizational asset
  • Design comprehensive data solutions that enable clients to appropriately capture, make sense of and action data.
  • Ensure delivered solutions fit within overall project plan and schedule
  • Provide feedback to departments and creates structured documentation, including specifications and weekly status reports
  • Advise departments on configuration and implementation options based on best practices
  • Participate in the business requirements gathering process for customizations
  • Lead/support Process Automation initiatives, for interfacing data structures
  • Act as a subject matter expert in data integration technologies
  • Ensure that all implementation methodology deliverables are complete and on time
  • Perform other tasks related to Data Governance, Master Data Management and Database Administration, as required
  • Troubleshoot reporting, analytics and BI tools, systems and software and performance tune these applications, as necessary
  • Act as project manager for data projects including generating project status, time, and expense reports as requested by the management
  • Other relevant duties as required

  • A degree or diploma in computer science or computer programming or related
  • Considerable experience in the design and construction of Data Ingestion, ETL/ELT pipelines, with iPaaS solution providers like Azure, Boomi, MuleSoft, Informatica or Tibco
  • Experience working with Data Governance working groups and committees
  • Experience with Power BI and/or other data visualization and analytics tools
  • Progressive experience in the design and deployment of Metadata and Master Data systems for domains like Asset, Customer or Location Master
  • Knowledge of Spatial Data Management and building Spatial Data Warehouse using ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise technology is an asset
  • Experience in DataOps and Continuous Integration / Delivery / Deployment is preferred
  • Knowledge of system integration architectures with JD Edwards Enterprise One, Amanda or Maximo would be an asset
  • Experience in DevOps / DataOps and Continuous Integration / Delivery / Deployment
  • Comprehensive database, Data Lake and Data Warehouse analysis and design experience, with full knowledge of SQL/No-SQL databases, data warehouse methodologies and data modeling
  • Proficiency in PL/SQL and T-SQL
  • Knowledge of J2EE Middleware and Messaging technologies like WebLogic or WebSphere would be an asset
  • Experience in the use of scripting tools like JavaScript, Python, Jython and programming languages like Java, C# is preferred
  • Strong ability to gather, author and analyze business and technical requirements and build applications and integrations according to specifications
  • Ability to lead projects and team members under limited supervision
  • Superior organizational and project management skills
  • Experience working with different SDLC methods including Agile, Scrum, Kanban
  • Time management skills in a dynamic delivery environment


$87,200 – $109,000
