What: Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Description: There are changes to the CIPS by-laws that are being proposed in order to implement a new governance model that brings all parts of the association – national, provincial, and sections – into better alignment to ensure a more unified CIPS that is better able to meet the day-to-day needs of its members. The CIPS National Board of Director’s unanimously approved the by-law changes for this new CIPS governance model at a special meeting held last March 29, 2008. The new CIPS governance by-law changes are now scheduled for final approval by the CIPS membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 7, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) at the Ottawa Congress Centre (55 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario). This is a turning point for the association and impacts every part of CIPS.

What: Community Connection Events – “Building out your Skills and Networking”
Description: CIPS Hosts Community Connection IT Events – Free of Charge!

CIPS is hosting a special Microsoft 14-city workshop tour across Canada. The Community Connection events, “Building out your Skills and Networking,” are 3-hour, pre-launch workshops being offered to help IT professionals network with peers and focus on the changing landscapes of technology, industry, community and career. The events are free of charge!

There will be an interactive discussion to give you an opportunity to gain insight and share experiences on IT changes that are affecting us in Canada. The following is an overview of the workshop:

  • Introductions;
  • State of the Industry ( a perspective from CIPS and ICTC);
  • Technology Demo (showing some high value pieces of new technology and how they could be implemented into your environment with minimal change);
  • Community Story (perspective on the impact that participating actively in your LOCAL community and the rewards it brings);
  • Learning Circles (a “vote with your feet” concept of discussing five topics with a facilitator and bringing back the groups findings to the larger group); and
  • Social Networking (meeting with other experts and LOCAL resources to strengthen your support infrastructure LOCAL to you – in your community).

Description: This presentation will touch upon several aspects of project management and how the project management methodologies are critical for successful IT project management. This presentation will specifically focus on Stratified Project Management (SPM). Executives committed to transforming their organizations need to ensure its future while assuring a satisfactory implementation experience. Fixing “requirements”, “on-time”, and “within budget” is often impracticable, even unrealistic for most projects; plus treating “requirements” as fixed builds a discontinuity between stakeholders inhibiting the free flow of information across the organization. In contrast SPM generates a growing commitment across all levels of the organization that tracks the progressive growth of understanding and expectation for the “new business” over the whole project period and provides an approach that integrates methodology, organization, project management and implementation process.

Description: Microelectronics are ubiquitous. Modern human beings interact with microchips hundreds of times a day. And increasingly, this level of contact is as true in leisure time as it is in the telephone and computer-driven work week. Microelectronics run our cars, our heating and cooling systems, our entertainment devices and our games. Microelectronics are finding their way into the clothes we wear and even into our bodies beneath them.
