Call for Volunteers: CIPS Certification Review Committees

Interested in actively supporting your Professional Society? Looking for a new challenge? CIPS is looking for Certified Members (I.S.P. or ITCP holders for over 2 years) to serve on the CIPS Experience and Education Review Committees.

Before starting the review of certification applications review committee members will virtually attend an orientation session to get familiarized with the review processes and procedures. Experience reviewers are also required to complete Accredited SFIA Assessor training prior to conducting reviews. The monthly time commitment is around 3 hours.

Offering your expertise to ensure the quality of the next generation of your profession is one of the most important contributions you can make.


CIPS Experience Review Committee Member Responsibilities Include:

  • Review and assess experience details of certification applications;
     
  • Prepare detailed findings on the assessment;
     
  • Report the findings to the CIPS Office of the Registrar;
     
  • Provide clarification and advice to the Certification Council on marginal or rejected applications;
     
  • Provide advice to the Office of the Registrar on pre-assessments;

CIPS Education Review Committee Member Responsibilities Include:

  • Review and assess academic details based on educational transcripts and Canadian equivalency assessments;
     
  • Prepare detailed findings on the assessment;
     
  • Report the findings to the Registrar’s Office;
     
  • Provide clarification and advice to the Certification Council on marginal or rejected applications;
     
  • Provide advice to the Office of the Registrar on pre-assessments;

Requirements:

  • Experience Review Committee members:

    • Must be a Certified CIPS Member and active holder of the I.S.P. and/or ITCP designation(s) for at least 2 years

    • Must undertake required Accredited SFIA Assessor training prior to reviewing CIPS certification applications.
      • SFIA Assessor training is both online learning and instructor led.
      • The online training must be completed prior to each instructor led session and there is some homework required.
      • There are two 4 hour instructor lead portions to the training and there will be set dates for these based on everyone’s availability.
      • Training timeline is approximately 2 months (First online training and then have the first instructor led session in month 1. In month 2 there is more online learning, and there is an assignment to complete. Training ends with a 2nd instructor led session.
      • In total there is 8 hours of instructor led training plus additional time required to complete the online portions.
      • Selected CIPS members are required to contribute $400 to the SFIA Assessor training. CIPS will pay the remaining cost of $600 for the training (which is $1,000 total) and CIPS members will receive a $400 credit off their CIPS membership over 2 years ($200 off per year). CIPS members will therefore be repaid their initial $400 investment as long as they remain on the CIPS experience review committee and complete assigned reviews during this time.
  • Education Review Committee members:

    • Must be a Certified CIPS Member and active holder of the I.S.P. and/or ITCP designation(s) for at least 2 years
    • Must be active faculty members at either a College Computing Information Systems (or similar) or University Computer Science, Software Engineering, M.I.S. (or similar) level program.
