Mr. Kratz has been using his education, expertise and time to serve many communities:
He has authored papers for CIPS at the national level and represented them in committee meetings of the Government of Canada; he has chaired or served on a number of CIPS (National) committees; he was the chairman, vice-chairman or member of a number of International Federation of Information Processing Societies (CIPS is the Canadian member of IFIP) task groups or conference program committees; he has spoken at many conferences; he continues to author papers and provide advice on papers drafted by others for CIPS;
He has provided, pro bono, legal advice to CIPS – Alberta on legal issues and bylaw drafting and amendments; he was a director and founder of a CIPS special interest group; he continues these services;
He participated in the formation of the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium ((ISC)2) the world’s largest IT security certification authority. He was honoured at their awards ceremony in 2009.

He is a member of the Intellectual Property Committee for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce;
He was chairman, national representative or member of a number of task forces or committees for the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA)
He was an initiator and founding board member of the Alberta Science and Technology Awards and its Foundation (ASTech), serving as President or Chairman of the Board five times;
He was a representative on the Intellectual Property Advisory Committee and a Member, Intellectual Property Advisory Committee for Industry Canada/Heritage Canada
He has been, or is, a director of the following not-for-profit organizations:
